I work, I come home, I kid wrangle, I sleep. Hubby works, while I kid wrangle, he comes home, we sleep. Repeat endlessly. We work alternating days to pay (well attempt to pay) the bills. 7 days a week. 4 weeks a month. 12 months a year. Retail rarely sleeps, and in our world when it does you don't get paid for it.
If........ok, let's be realistic......WHEN a crisis occurs we struggle. $100 to feed a family of 5 for a week was rough. Ever hear of Ramen ala Tuna? It's a delectable dish made by combining two of the cheapest items you can buy for human consumption. But if your kid's favorite color is green, add food coloring to damn near anything and he'll eat it!
We get paid tomorrow. Too bad there are about three different bill collectors with their hands in our pockets waiting for the change to hit the lint in the bottom.
On the bright side....we have the ability to turn off our ringer, chocolate icecream left over from a birthday, and a bottle of cheap wine. Turn on a movie from the library, forget about Mt. Washmore in the laundry room, and I am going to have a good night. Dammit! I deserve it.

Self-comfort is huge in my life. That may mean using a scented lotion, lighting candles, reading, playing with my dog, dozing on the loveseat before the fire. All of these comforts cost very little.
